For Nonbelievers: Social Media + Business = Booming
You know the nonbelievers - The old world executives who think social media is for the kids. They say things like, "Social media is a rubbish fad; it's not a sustainable form of advertising and has no place in the office." Well, we came across a recent article that may blow those nay-sayers away.
"The use of Facebook, Twitter, and blogs for business purposes has skyrocketed in the last six months—with indications of wider adoption and more frequent sessions, according to research by Palo Alto Networks into application traffic patterns of computer networks," reports MarketingProfs, LLC [1].
The supporting numbers:
- Facebook user sessions per in the workplace jumped by 192% and bandwirth consumption 294% in the first half of 2009 [1]. This indicates almost double the users and more involved activity (e.g. posting videos, looking at pictures, playing games)
- "Twitter is the most popular instant messaging application in the workplace: 89% of companies used Twitter, compared with 35% six months ago" [1] from September 2009.
- Blog posting and news posting in the workplace doubled in the first six months of 2009. [1]
With these numbers, business owners can see just how effective social media is - it's consuming their own employees during their lunch time (and other times?) So why not take social media by the reigns and get your employees tweeting about your business on FlashTweet? Hey, if you can't beat them, join them with one of the best marketing tools out there!
